Active ImageNew furniture, new paint, new carpet, new dishes, and new decorations are some changes we make to give familiar surroundings a new look. With this issue, Solo Perspective becomes Single Purpose.

Since mid-September, I’ve worked in a new building and in a different environment. If you walk into my cubicle, you’ll see the same books, pen holder, and organizer. You’ll also notice my work space is more compact and user-friendly. The décor and furniture are new, but there is a sense of familiarity.

If you visit Adult Ministries, you’ll see the same faces: Larry, Shirley, Derl, Jim, Marshall, and John. We continue to work together to provide leadership, help, and insights for the Church of the Nazarene around the world. We meet together to encourage and support one another, to share ideas, and to provide assistance as needed.

Single Purpose—Following Jesus (formerly Solo Perspective) will continue to provide information to assist those involved in Single Adult Ministries. There will be a new emphasis on discipleship and how it is key to everything we do in the ministry. Our focus—single purpose--will be to help others to follow Jesus more closely as we join with others in the Body of Christ.

It isn’t our marital status that defines us; rather, it is our devotion to being one of Jesus’ disciples that gives us identify. We come together as believers to help one another live the Christian lifestyle. This is not to imply there is no need for Single Adult Ministries. There will always be a need for Single Adult Ministries! There will always be a need for those who have experienced death or divorce to encourage, model, and support those just beginning these journeys. There will always be a need for those of us who have lived life as a single adult to be role models, coaches, and mentors.

The new emphasis reminds us that everyone needs discipleship. Living the Christian lifestyle isn’t a solitary way of life. Christianity is about community; and community is the place where the Christian lifestyle is lived out.

With a Single Purpose, join me as we one by one together follow the greatest Single Adult who ever lived.
